FULL TIME INTERPRETER VACANCY

The Project "VIE/02/009 – Capacity Strengthening to Manage
and Promote Trade in Services in Viet Nam in the Context of
Integration", funded by UNDP and executed by the Ministry of
Planning and Investment over a period of three years
2003-2005 is seeking a qualified candidate for the
Interpreter position based in Hanoi.

Responsibilities

- Provide interpretation services to project meetings,
working sessions, training events as and when assigned;

- Translate documents, reports related to project’s
activities from English into Vietnamese and vice versa and
make sure that deadline is met;

- Provide interpretation services to Senior Technical
Advisor, national/international consultants (both in Hanoi
and in the field);

Qualifications

- Relevant university degree;

- Minimum of five years experience in
interpretation/translation;

- Demonstrated strong interpretation, translation, and
interpersonal skills;

- Familiarity with trade in services concepts is an
advantage;

- Well-organized, good initiative, and work independently;

- Experience and skills working in a team environment;

- Good computer skills.

Duration of assignment:

- 1 year (with possibility for extension) including 2 month
probation

TRADE IN SERVICES IN VIETNAM IN THE CONTEXT OF INTEGRATION

JOB DESCRIPTION

1. Job title: Interpreter

2. Duty station: Hanoi

3. Duration of Assignment: one year starting from February
2004 to January 2005, with possibility of one year renewal

4. Period of probation: 2 month

5. Supervision: National Project Manager

6. Qualifications

- Relevant university degree;

- Excellent written and spoken language skills in both
Vietnamese and English;

- Minimum of five years experience in
interpretation/translation, writing and editing;

- Demonstrated strong interpretation, translation,
communication and interpersonal skills;

- Knowledge of development issues and preferably familiarity
with trade in services concepts;

- Highly developed work management skills, well-organized,
good initiative and judgment, able to prioritize effectively
and work independently in achieving agreed outputs;

- Experience and skills working in a team environment;

- Good skills in MS Office software essential.

1. Duties and Responsibilities

Interpreter, under the direct supervision of the National
Project Manager, is responsible for the day-to-day
translation and interpretation. His/her main duties and
responsibilities are as follows:

- Provide interpretation services to project meetings,
working sessions, training events as and when assigned;

- Translate documents, reports related to project’s
activities from English into Vietnamese and vice versa and
make sure that deadline is met;

- Provide interpretation services to national/international
consultants (both in Hanoi and in the field);

- Provide interpretation services to working sessions
between STA and task forces;

- Edit and strengthen project documentation produced by
project partners to ensure high quality project output;

- Draft records of project meeting and translate written
minutes of meetings when oral translation is not required;

- Travel within Vietnam with Project staff as required;

- Carry other duties as may be required by the National
Project Manager.
