Attavagga
Self
157. If one holds
oneself as dear,
protected,
one protects oneself.
One who's
wise should be aware
through all
the watches three.
157. Nªu
biªt yêu tñ ngã,
Phäi
khéo bäo v® mình,
Ngß¶i
trí trong ba canh,
Phäi
luôn tïnh thÑc.
158. One
should first establish
oneself in
what is proper.
One may then
teach others,
and wise,
one is not blamed.
158. Trß¾c
hªt tñ ð£t mình,
Vào
nhæng gì thích ðáng.
Sau m¾i
giáo hóa ngß¶i,
Ngß¶i
trí khöi b¸ nhim.
159. As one
teaches others
so should
one do oneself.
Well-tamed,
on may tame others,
oneself to
tame is hard.
159. Hãy
tñ làm cho mình,
Nhß
ði«u mình dÕy ngß¶i.
Khéo
tñ ði«u, ði«u ngß¶i,
Khó
thay tñ ði«u phøc !
160. Oneself
is refuge of oneself,
who else
indeed could refuge be?
By good training
of oneself
one gains
a refuge hard to gain.
160. Tñ
mình y chï mình,
Nào
có y chï khác.
Nh¶
khéo ði«u phøc mình,
Ðßþc
y chï khó ðßþc.
161. By oneself
is evil done,
it's born
of self and self-produced.
Evil grinds
the unwise one
as diamond
does the hardest gem.
161. Ði«u
ác mình tñ làm,
Tñ
mình sanh, mình tÕo.
Nghi«n
nát kë ngu si,
nhß
kim cß½ng, ng÷c báu.
162. He whose
conduct's very bad
like oak-tree
choked with ivy,
so he does
towards himself
what enemies
would wish.
162. Phá
gi¾i quá tr¥m tr÷ng,
Nhß
dây leo bám cây
Gieo hÕi
cho tñ thân,
Nhß
kë thù mong ß¾c.
163. Easy
is what's bad to do,
what's harmful
to oneself.
But what
is good, of benefit,
is very hard
to do.

làm các ði«u ác,
D làm
tñ hÕi mình.
Còn
vi®c lành, vi®c t¯t,
Th§t
t¯i thßþng khó làm.
164. Whatever
man unwise relies
on evil views
and so condemns
the Teaching
of the Arahants,
or Noble
Ones who Dhamma live,
he, as a
bamboo fruiting,
fruits to
self-destruction.
164. Kë
ngu si mi®t th¸,
Giáo
pháp b§c La Hán,
B§c
Thánh, b§c chánh mÕng.
Chính
do ác kiªn này,
Nhß
quä loÕi cây lau [1]
Mang quä
tñ hoÕi di®t.
165. By oneself
is evil done,
by oneself
defiled,
by oneself
it's left undone,
by self alone
one purified.
Purity, impurity
on oneself depend,
no one can
purify another.
165. Tñ
mình, ði«u ác làm
Tñ
mình làm nhim ô,
Tñ
mình, ác không làm,
Tñ
mình làm thanh t¸nh.
T¸nh,
không t¸nh tñ mình,
Không
ai thanh t¸nh ai!
166. Let
none neglect their good
for others'
good however great.
Know well
oneself's own good
and to that
good attend.

lþi ngß¶i bao nhiêu,
Ch¾
quên ph¥n tß lþi,
Nh¶
th¡ng trí tß lþi.
Hãy
chuyên tâm lþi mình.
