Many folks are ill-behaved
but I shall endure abuse
as elephant in battlefield
arrows shot from a bow.
320. Ta nhß voi giæa tr§n
HÑng ch¸u cung tên r½i,
Ch¸u ðñng m÷i phï báng.
Ác gi¾i r¤t nhi«u ngß(c)i.
321. The tusker tamed they lead in crowds,
the king he mounts the tamed,
noblest of humans are the tamed
who can endure abuse.
321. Voi luy®n, ðßa dñ hµi,
Ngña luy®n, ðß(r)c vua cßÞi,
Ngß(c)i luy®n, b§c t¯i thß(r)ng
Ch¸u ðñng m÷i phï báng.
322. Excellent are mules when tamed
and thoroughbred from Sindh,
noble the elephant of state,
better still one tamed of self.
322. T¯t thay, con la thu¥n,
Thu¥n chüng loài ngña Xinh.
ÐÕi tß(r)ng, voi có ngà.
Tñ ði«u m¾i t¯i thß(r)ng.
323. Surely not on mounts like these
one goes the Unfrequented Way
as one by self well-tamed
is tamed and by the taming goes.
323. ChÆng phäi loài cßÞi ¤y,
Ðßa ngß(c)i ðªn Niªt bàn,
Chï có ngß(c)i tñ ði«u,
Ðªn ðích nh(c) ði«u phøc.
324. Hard to check the tusker Dhanapala,
in rut with temple running pungently,
bound, e'en a morsel he'll not eat
for he recalls the elephant-forest longingly.
324. Con voi tên Tài Hµ,
Phát døc, khó ði«u phøc,
Trói buµc, không ån u¯ng.
Voi nh¾ ðªn r×ng voi.
325. A sluggard stupid, steeped in gluttony,
who's sleep-engrossed, who wallows as he lies,
like a great porker stuffed, engorged with swill,
comes ever and again into a womb.
325. Ngß(c)i ßa ngü, ån l¾n
N¢m lån lóc qua lÕi,
ChÆng khác heo no bøng,
Kë ngu nh§p thai mãi.
326. Formerly this wandering mind wandered
where it wished, where whim, where pleasure led.
Wisely this day I will restrain it
as trainer with hook an elephant in rut.
326. Trß¾c tâm này buông lung,
ChÕy theo ái, døc, lÕc.
Nay Ta chánh chª ngñ,
Nhß c¥m móc ði«u voi.
327. Do you delight in heedfulness
and guard your own mind well!
Draw yourselves from the evil way
as would elephant sunk in slough.
327. Hãy vui không phóng d§t,
Khéo phòng hµ tâm ý.
Kéo mình khöi ác ðÕo,
Nhß voi b¸ sa l¥y.
328. If for practice one finds a friend
prudent, well-behaved and wise,
mindful, joyful, live with him
all troubles overcoming.
328. Nªu ðß(r)c bÕn hi«n trí
Ðáng s¯ng chung, hÕnh lành,
Nhiªp phøc m÷i hi¬m nguy
Hoan hÖ s¯ng chánh ni®m.
329. If for practice one finds no friend
prudent, well-behaved and wise,
like king be leaving conquered land,
fare as lone elephant in the wilds.
329. Không g£p bÕn hi«n trí.
Ðáng s¯ng chung, hÕnh lành
Nhß vua bö nß¾c bÕi,
Hãy s¯ng riêng cô ðµc,
Nhß voi s¯ng r×ng voi.
330. Better it is to live alone
for with a fool's no fellowship,
no evil do, be free of care,
fare as lone elephant in the wilds.
330. T¯t h½n s¯ng mµt mình,
Không ngß(c)i ngu kªt bÕn.
Ðµc thân, không ác hÕnh
S¯ng vô tß vô lñ,
Nhß voi s¯ng r×ng voi.
331. Blest to have friends when one's in need,
blest contentment with whatever is,
blessed is merit when life's at an end,
abandoning all dukkha is blessedness.
331. Vui thay, bÕn lúc c¥n!
Vui thay, s¯ng biªt ðü,
Vui thay, chªt có ðÑc!
Vui thay, m÷i kh± ðoÕn.
332. Respect for one's mother brings happiness here
as well as respect for one's father.
Here happiness comes from respecting the monks
and those of virtue excellent.
332. Vui thay, hiªu kính m©,
Vui thay, hiªu kính cha,
Vui thay, kính Sa môn,
Vui thay, kính Hi«n Thánh.
333. Blest is virtue till life's end
and blest the faith standing firm,
blest the attainment of wisdom
and blest the non-doing of evils.
333. Vui thay, già có gi¾i!
Vui thay, tín an trú!
Vui thay, ðß(r)c trí tu®,
Vui thay, ác không làm.
