How to get and install VPS Fonts

In order to read the Vietnamese document, you will need a Vietnamese TTF font produced by VPS (Vietnamese Professional Society - Hoi Chuyen Gia Viet Nam). Please take note or print out this procedure:

  1. You first need to download a self-extract file, vpsfonts.exe, by clicking here
  2. Store it in a temporary directory on your hard disk, such as C:\TMP
  3. Run program vpsfonts.exe from your PC. The VPS font files, VPS*.TTF, will be generated in that C:\TMP directory (there are three VPS fonts)
  4. To install those VPS fonts into your Windows system:
    Run Control Panel / Fonts
    Select Install New Fonts
Select directory C:\TMP, and then, the VPS fonts
  5. Run Netscape Navigator. Select Options / General Preferences / Fonts
  6. Choose one of the VPS fonts as your Proportional Font and/or Fixed Font.

Beside three provided fonts in vpsfonts.exe, you can get a lot more VPS, VISCII fonts at ftp://ftp.media.mit.edu/pub/Vietnet The installation method is a bit difference, because those font files at Vietnet directory are zip files. You need to extract the font files into a directory and continue from step 4 above. At the same place, you can get vpswin3d.zip (vps keyboard) or winvnk14.zip (viscii keyboard) which allows you to type Vietnamese characters in your text editors.

Have fun!
