Whenever possible, this directory has both a Mac and PC version of programs; text files are named [".txt"] and constructed in accordance with PC DOS rules, but the files can be read as text files by Windows and by Macs too; depending on which Mac software you are using, you may end up with extra blank lines between each line of text. All of these files are in 7-bit ASCII format which means that they do not need to be encoded or decoded when sent through the InterNet. Most of the files in this directory are informational and are in text format.
Photos and other images are generally in JPEG [".jpg"] format. At the present time, JPEG seems to cause the least problems going from one computer to another. JPEG does have different levels of resolution -- of course, the higher the resolution, the larger the file.
At the present time, programs in this directory are primarily for Mac [".hqx"] and PC [".zip"]. Whenever possible, we will try to have both Mac and PC versions of any particular program. Since these programs are 8-bit files encoded into 7-bit format for passage through InterNet, you WILL need to have the right decoding program for your computer.
