Piyavagga Affection
209. one makes an effort where none's due
with nothing done where effort's due,
one grasps the dear, gives up the Quest
envying those who exert themselves.
209. Tñ chuyên, không ðáng chuyên
Không chuyên, vi®c ðáng chuyên
Bö ðích, theo hÖ ái,
Ganh t¸ b§c tñ chuyên.
210. Don't consort with dear ones
at any time, nor those not dear,
'tis dukkha not to see the dear,
'tis dukkha seeing those not dear.
210. Ch¾ g¥n gûi ngß(c)i yêu,
Tr÷n ð(c)i xa kë ghét.
Yêu không g£p là kh±,
Oán phäi g£p cûng ðau.
211. others then do not make dear
for hard's the parting from them.
For whom there is no dear, undear
in them no bonds are found.

Ái bi®t ly là ác;
Nhæng ai không yêu ghét,
Không th¬ có buµc ràng.
212. from endearment grief is born,
from endearment fear,
one who is endearment-free
has no grief -- how fear?

Ai thoát khöi tham ái,

213. from affection grief is born,
from affection fear,
one who is affection-free
has no grief -- how fear?

Ái luyªn sinh s(r) hãi.
Ai giäi thoát ái luyªn
Không s¥u, ðâu s(r) hãi?
214. from lustfulness arises grief,
from lustfulness springs fear,
one wholly free of lustfulness
has no grief -- how fear?
214. HÖ ái sinh s¥u ßu,
HÖ ái sinh s(r) hãi.
Ai giäi thoát hÖ ái,
Không s¥u, ðâu s(r) hãi?
215. from attachment grief is born,
from attachment fear,
one who is attachment-free
has no grief -- how fear?
215. Døc ái sinh s¥u ßu,
Døc ái sinh s(r) hãi,
Ai thoát khöi døc ái,
Không s¥u, ðâu s(r) hãi?
216. out of craving grief is born,
out of craving fear,
one fully freed of craving
has no grief -- how fear?
216. tham ái sinh s¥u ßu,
Tham ái sinh s(r) hãi.
Ai giäi thoát tham ái,
Không s¥u, ðâu s(r) hãi?
217. perfect in virtue and insight,
firm in Dhamma, knower of Truth,
dear to the people's such a one
who does what should be done.
217. Ðü gi¾i ðÑc, chánh kiªn ;
Trú pháp, chÑng chân lý,
Tñ làm công vi®c mình,
Ðß(r)c qu¥n chúng ái kính.
218. one with a wish for the Undeclared,
with mind so well-pervaded,
a mind not bound in pleasures of sense,
an "upstream-goer's" called.

Ý cäm xúc thß(r)ng quä [2]
Tâm thoát ly các døc,
XÑng g÷i b§c Thß(r)ng Lßu.
219. one who's long away from home
returns in safety from afar,
then friends, well-wishers, kinsmen too
are overjoyed at his return.
219. Khách lâu ngày ly hß½ng,
An toàn t× xa v«,
Bà con cùng thân hæu,
Hân hoan ðón chào m×ng.
220. in the same way, with merit done
when from this world to another gone
those merits then receive one there
as relatives a dear one come.
220. Cûng v§y các phß¾c nghi®p,
Ðón chào ngß(c)i làm lành,
Ð(c)i này ðªn ð(c)i kia.
Nhß thân nhân, ðón chào.
