and now Death's men draw near,
now you stand at the parting gates
but waybread you have none.
235. Ngß½i nay gi¯ng lá héo,
Diêm sÑ ðang ch(c) ngß½i,
Ngß½i ðÑng trß¾c cØa chªt,
Ðß(c)ng trß(c)ng thiªu tß lß½ng.
236. make an island of yourself,
quickly strive and wise become,
freed from stain and passionless
to go to the pure Abodes.
236. Hãy tñ làm hòn ðäo,
Tinh c¥n g¤p, sáng su¯t.
Tr× c¤u uª, thanh t¸nh,
Ъn Thánh ð¸a chß Thiên.
237. even now the end draws near,
to the presence of death you've fared.
Along the path's no place for rest
and waybread you have none.

238. make an island of yourself,
quickly strive and wise become,
freed from stain and passionless
you'll not return, take flesh, decay.

Tinh c¥n g¤p, sáng su¯t.

ChÆng tr· lÕi sanh già.
239. little by little, time after time,
successively then let the sage
blow away all blemishes
just as a smith with silver.

240. as rust arisen out of iron
itself that iron eats away,
so kammas done beyond what's wise

241. for oral tradition, non-recitation,
in household life, non-exertion,
the fair of form when slovenly,
a sentry's sloth: all blemishes.
241. Không tøng làm nh¾p kinh,
Không ðÑng d§y, b¦n nhà,
Biªng nhác làm nh½ s¡c,
Phóng d§t uª ngß(c)i canh.
242. in woman, conduct culpable,
with givers, avariciousness,
all blemishes these evil things
in this world or the next.
242. Tà hÕnh nh½ ðàn bà,
Xan tham nh¾p kë thí,
Ác pháp là vªt nh½,
Ð(c)i này và ð(c)i sau.
243. more basic than these blemishes
is ignorance, the worst of all.
Abandoning this blemish then,
be free of blemish, monks!

Vô minh, nh½ t¯i thß(r)ng,
ÐoÕn nh½ ¤y, tÖ kheo,
Thành b§c không uª nhim.
244. easy the life for a shameless one
who bold and forward as a crow,
is slanderer and braggart too:
this one's completely stained.
244. D thay, s¯ng không h±
S¯ng l² mãng nhß quÕ,
S¯ng công kích huyênh hoang,
S¯ng li«u lînh, nhim ô.
245. but hard the life of a modest one
who always seeks for purity,
who's cheerful though no braggart,
clean-living and discerning.
245. Khó thay, s¯ng x¤u h±,
Thß(c)ng thß(c)ng c¥u thanh t¸nh.
S¯ng vô tß, khiêm t¯n,
Trong sÕch và sáng su¯t.
246. in the world who life destroys,
who words of falsity speaks,
who takes what is not freely given
or to another's partner goes.
246. ai · ð(c)i sát sinh,
Nói láo không chân th§t,
ð(c)i l¤y không cho,
Qua lÕi v¾i v(r) ngß(c)i.
247. or has distilled, fermented drinks:
Who with abandon follows these
extirpates the root of self
even here in this very world.
247. U¯ng rß(r)u men, rß(r)u n¤u,
Ngß(c)i s¯ng ðam mê v§y,
Chính ngay tÕi ð(c)i này,
Tñ ðào b¾i g¯c mình.
248. therefore friend remember this;
Hard to restrain are evil acts,
don't let greed and wickedness
down drag you long in dukkha.

Không chª ngñ là ác,
Ch¾ ð¬ tham phi pháp,
Làm ngß(c)i ðau kh± dài.
249. people give as they have faith,
as they are bright with joyfulness.
Who's troubled over gifts received,
the food and drink that others get,
neither in daytime nor by night
will come to a collected mind.
249. do tín tâm, hÖ tâm
Loài ngß(c)i m¾i b¯ thí.
ðây ai b¤t mãn
Ngß(c)i khác ðß(r)c ån u¯ng,
Ngß(c)i ¤y ngày ho£c ðêm,
Không ðÕt ðß(r)c tâm t¸nh?
250. but who has severed envy's mind,
uprooted it, destroyed entire,
indeed in daytime and by night
will come to a collected mind.

T§n g¯c nh± tâm ¤y.
Ngß(c)i ¤y ngày ho£c ðêm,
T¤t ðªn ðß(r)c tâm ð¸nh.
251. there is no fire like lust,
nought seizes like aversion,
unequalled is delusion's net,
no river's like to craving.

Ch¤p nào b¢ng sân h§n!
Lß¾i nào b¢ng lß¾i si!
Sông nào b¢ng sông ái!
252. Other's faults are easy to see
yet hard it is to see one's own,
and so one winnows just like chaff
the faults of other people, while
hiding away those of one's own
as crafty cheat the losing throw.

253. Who's always seeing other's faults,
taking offence, censorious,
pollutions spread for such a one
who's far from their exhaustion.

R¤t xa l§u ho£c di®t.
254. in skies above there is no path,
no peaceful one's without,
in manifoldness do folk delight,
Tathagatas are manifold-free.

Chúng sanh thích hý lu§n,
Nhß Lai, hý lu§n tr×.
255. in skies above there is no path,
no peaceful one's without,
nothing conditioned ever lasts,
no Buddha's ever shaken.
